Hosts Forum
This list is
used by the GMCtechNET hosts and sponsors for administration of the lists and
the GMCtechNET servers. At this time this list is closed to new members.
It is set up to be able to receive mail from all members so anyone can send
concerns or compliments directly to the hosting group.
The reason for having the above forums is not to force people into conforming but to try to keep the archives as small as possible. This should make searching and indexing faster. The Design forum and Classics forum are fully indexed and permanently archived. The Visiting forum is archived for 180 days. The list server indexes every message in Design and Classics on every word in the message body and headers.

Guidelines for Posting
Many of the discussions on GMCtechNET (especially
Design) can be considered to be brainstorming.
The basic rules for brainstorming are:
- critique the idea in order to figure out how to get
it to work, and
- always keep in mind that the goal is never to kill
an idea, but to explore it.
Remember, gems are often found buried in the overburden. No idea is too
wild to discuss seriously and diplomatically. Anything goes, as long as it can
be done safely. We are here to explore experimental ideas, not bash them.
Signature Lines
Please keep your signature lines as short as possible.
Mail Format
Please do not post in HTML format. If you
don't know how to turn off HTML just ask.
The Absolute Bottom Line on Posting Etiquette
Responsible posting etiquette is essential at all times. Members who disagree
with the appropriateness of a posting should first contact the other party by
private email and make their views known directly. Please use courtesy, respect
and discretion in any such discussions. Public embarrassment of any member via
the list is not acceptable. Remember;
absolutely no flaming. This includes off-list flames in response to
on-list messages. Violations of these guidelines will result in two private
warnings to the offending party. A third violation will result in the party
being removed from the list. Extreme email aggressiveness (such as mail-bombing
or threats) shall be deemed grounds for immediate removal from the list. All
such actions shall be solely at the discretion of the GMCtechNET hosts.
Before getting upset by a posting, keep the
following in mind:
Email gives no emotional clues to the writer’s attitude. If a message
seems insulting or derogatory consider the following before you respond.
|
|
The
message may seem insulting because you have misunderstood the writer’s intent. The best response may be just asking for a clarification or assuming you have misunderstood |
|
|
The message is in response to one of your
messages that has been misunderstood |
|
|
The sender is a twit |
The commercial side of things
Limited commercial messages are fine especially if
they directly relate to the topic being discussed, or if they are announcing
a product born from discussions on this list. The Design Forum is meant to be
used as a sounding board for developing new products for the GMC motor home.
Message Formatting
Messages
submitted will at times be quite lengthy. It would be helpful if you would
format your response so that it is easy to understand what you are responding
to. Include only the relevant portion of the previous message in your
response and trim out the rest. It is best if you include the clip from
the previous message before your response as opposed to after. The list
server software will automatically reject messages with more than 20 lines of
contiguous quoted text.
